Use of color-coded, prefilled syringes appears to decrease the time to medication administration and significantly reduce critical dosing errors by emergency providers during simulated pediatric ED resuscitations, according to a study. The average time for delivering all doses was 47 seconds for conventional medication administration, compared with 19 seconds using color-coded, prefilled syringes. The percent of critical dosing errors also favors use of color-coded, prefilled syringes (17% vs 0%).
