Comparing Maintenance Fluid Types

A comparison of isotonic to hypotonic intravenous fluid at maintenance rates for 48 hours in hospitalized pediatric patients indicates that the former is safe and may result in fewer cases of hyponatremia. Rates of hypernatremia, hypertension, and edema were similarly low with the use of both fluid types.
