Danish research indicates that symptoms of depression and comorbid mental illness appear to be underdiagnosed and undertreated in patients with HIV. Symptoms of depression were observed in 35% of HIV patients. Symptoms of moderate or major depression were seen in 26% of the study group. The prevalence of comorbid mental illness was also high.
