Duke researchers have found that cumulative exposure to hyperlipidemia in young adulthood appears to increase the risk of coronary heart disease (CHD). The following rates of CHD were observed among participants at age 55:

♦  No exposure: 4.4%
♦  1 to 10 years: 8.1%
♦  11 to 20 years: 16.5%
