Among older patients with non-STEMI, generic medications do not appear to increase adherence to statins at 1 year after hospital discharge when compared with brand name drugs. Researchers found that branded medications had an average copay of $25, compared with $5 for generic medications. However, the average proportion of days covered over 1 year was similar for brand name and generic medications (71.5% vs. 68.9%).
