Preoperative statin use appears to be associated with a decreased risk of postoperative acute kidney injury, according to results from a large investigation. An analysis of patients who underwent a major open abdominal, cardiac, thoracic, or vascular procedure found that statin use was associated with hazard ratios of 0.74 to 0.80 when compared with no statin use.
