Using a comprehensive surgical safety checklist and a structured team training curriculum appears to result in significant reductions in 30-day morbidity, according to a study from researchers in Connecticut. Rates of 30-day morbidity were 15.9% in cases with only team training and 8.2% in cases when the checklist was used, compared with a 23.6% rate for historical controls.

Abstract: Journal of the American College of Surgeons, December 2012.
