Specialist Participation in Breast Cancer Decisions

Radiation oncologists appear to be left out of the decision-making process by other physicians who are treating patients with breast cancer, according to survey results. The analysis showed that 27.9% of radiation oncologists reported not being included in treatment decisions early enough in the disease process by other providers. Nearly half of surgeons from the survey stated that few or almost none of the breast cancer patients they saw in the past year had consulted with a radiation oncologist before undergoing definitive surgery.
