The Impact of Smoking Among the Elderly

Researchers have found that smoking appears to be a strong independent risk factor of cardiovascular events and mortality among patients aged 60 and older. The authors found that smoking advanced cardiovascular mortality by more than 5 years for this older patient population, but smoking cessation appeared to help reduce this excess risk.
