The addition of antibiotics to regimens that include steroids for patients hospitalized with acute exacerbations of COPD appears to improve short-term outcomes. In a study, receipt of antibiotics was associated with a 40% reduction in in-hospital mortality risk and a 13% reduction in 30-day readmission for COPD when compared with no antibiotic administration.
