Study results suggest that the current 10-year atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) risk threshold (7.5%) used in the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association cholesterol treatment guidelines appears to have an incremental cost-effectiveness ratio (ICER) of $37,000 per quality-adjusted life-year (QALY) among adults aged 45 to 70. However, researchers found that an ASCVD risk threshold of 4.0% would have an ICER of $100,000 per QALY, and a threshold of 3.0% would have an ICER of $150,000 per QALY.
