Comparing Transfusion Strategies in High-Risk Hip Surgery

Using a liberal transfusion strategy following hip fracture surgery in elderly patients with high cardiovascular risks appears to result in similar outcomes to those using a more restrictive transfusion strategy. Findings from a randomized study demonstrated that utilizing a liberal strategy did not appear to increase or decrease in-hospital morbidity and mortality rates.
