Diabetes: A Predictor of Severe Osteoarthritis?

Type 2 diabetes appears to predict the development of severe osteoarthritis, independent of age, BMI, and other risk factors, according to European investigators. The study group noted that arthroplasty rates per 1,000 person-years were 17.7 for patients with type 2 diabetes, compared with 5.3 for those without the disease.
