Unanticipated Events Common in the Operating Room

Unanticipated events appear to be common in the operating room, according to an investigation of high-acuity surgeries. Deviations occurred an average of every 79.4 minutes in the study. These deviations often resulted from poor organizational and environmental design and suboptimal OR team dynamic.
