Reducing Imaging Use in Pediatric Appendicitis

Use of ultrasound as the first imaging modality to diagnose pediatric appendicitis appears to have increased between 2008 and 2013, according to a study. The authors suggest that educational campaigns be initiated and focus on the continued reduction of CT use to limit radiation exposure in this patient population. Educational efforts should also concentrate on increasing the use of high-quality ultrasound.
