The use of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) is prevalent around the world. CAM treatments are frequently used by patients suffering from asthma and allergies. CAM has been linked to allergic and anaphylactic responses. Recent efforts to control and monitor adverse responses to these treatments have provided us with more information about the probable causes of severe allergic reactions. Several causes have been discovered, including Andrographis paniculata, Echinacea species, bee products, Ginkgo biloba, and Ginseng.

Knowing what factors enhance the risk of anaphylaxis enables for responses to be detected, recorded, and researched further. In the future, research to identify major causal allergens will be required. Collaboration between the allergy community and complementary and alternative medicine practitioners can lead to a better knowledge of allergy to these therapies.
