A report from the AHRQ indicates that 88% of hospital staff reported feeling a strong sense of teamwork within hospital units, but only 45% had positive perceptions of handoffs and transitions across units. With information from more than 550,000 staff members from more than 1,000 United States hospitals, the report (available at www.ahrq. gov) is meant to enable hospitals to compare their safety culture scores with others. Comparative data on bed size, teaching status, ownership and control, region, work areas, staff positions, and interaction with patients are also provided in the report.
