A New England research team has found that nearly one in every seven ED handoffs appears to lack communication about patients having hypotension or hypoxia. Among episodes of hypotension and hypoxia, 42% and 74%, respectively, were not communicated at rounds. ED crowding and care interruptions did not appear to be associated with communication errors.
