The 22-item Sinonasal Outcome Test is a measure for chronic rhinosinusitis. The test is used in rhinology/otolaryngology clinics to assess sinonasal symptoms. This is done in general when a formal diagnosis is not established. However, there is little support for such usage.

The researchers did this study to assess the utility of the SNOT-22 as a reflection of QOL and symptom control for AR patients.

The present study is a retrospective review of three hundred and fifty-three patients with persistent AR. The SNOT-22 demonstrated responsiveness, with a mean change of −5.8 from pre- to post-treatment. The change in SNOT-22 over the treatment period was correlated with the change in EQ-5D VAS and RCAT. The minimal clinically significant difference was calculated to be between 6 and 11.

The study concluded that SNOT-22 has the utility to assess QOL and symptom control in AR, and it is both reliable and responsive in its application to patients with AR. Therefore, the SNOT-22 may be a convenient and versatile tool in patients’ clinical assessment with AR.
