Adding Ablation to Mitral Valve Surgery

Adding atrial fibrillation (AF) ablation to mitral valve surgery appears to significantly increase the rate of freedom from AF at 1 year among patients with persistent or long-standing persistent AF, according to a study. However, the authors noted that ablation increased the risk of permanent pacemaker implantation.
