Long-term, pre-existing type 2 diabetes appears to increase mortality risk among patients diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, according to a study from the University of Pennsylvania. Investigators found that pancreatic cancer patients who had type 2 diabetes for more than 5 years were significantly more likely to die (hazard ratio, 1.16) when compared with people who did not have pre-existing diabetes.

Abstract: Cancer, January 15, 2013.
