In a small study, patients with head and neck cancer who performed five targeted swallowing exercises throughout their chemoradiation therapy (CRT) and participated in weekly swallowing therapy sessions appeared to achieve improved swallowing function at 3 and 6 months after CRT. However, improved function was not achieved immediately after CRT or at 9 and 12 months after CRT.
