Inpatient mortality and pulmonary complications appear to be lower with regional anesthesia than with general anesthesia in patients undergoing hip fracture surgery, according to University of Pennsylvania investigators. When compared with general anesthesia, regional anesthesia had an adjusted odds ratio of mortality of 0.71 in hip fracture surgery patients.
