Comparing Anesthesia Methods for Hip Fracture Surgery


Inpatient mortality and pulmonary complications appear to be lower with regional anesthesia than with general anesthesia in patients undergoing hip frac­ture surgery, according to University of Pennsylvania investigators. When compared with general anesthesia, regional anesthesia had an adjusted odds ratio of mor­tality of 0.71 in hip fracture sur­gery patients.
