Hospitalization was associated with increased post-discharge mortality in HFpEF, according to findings published in Journal of Cardiac Failure. Among 1,767 patients, Ebrahim Barkoudah, MD, MPH, FACP, SFHM, and colleagues reported 2,973 hospitalizations in 1,062 subjects; 49% were attributed to cardiovascular causes. Repeat hospitalizations were associated with greater subsequent mortality, with similar death rates after hospitalizations twice for cardiovascular reasons (18.5 per 100 person-years), twice for non-cardiovascular reasons (21.6 per 100 person-years), or once each for cardiovascular and noncardiovascular reasons (18.4 per 100 person-years).
