Dietary allergy therapy has shifted in recent years from food avoidance to interventional therapies. This study will go through the most current advancements in immunotherapy with food allergies. Oral immunotherapy is still the most well researched type of food immunotherapy. In 2017, further data was provided to support its effectiveness. Its methods of action are being investigated. Studies have been dedicated to the concurrent use of biologics, specifically omalizumab, to decrease its adverse effects. The epicutaneous application of food allergens is one of the potential techniques of food immunotherapy that is being explored.

Different types of food immunotherapy can intervene in the immunologic pathways of the development of food tolerance. The goal of research is to make these treatments clinically viable.
