The recent development and quality evaluation of allergens in Europe are summarised in this study. The latest developments are shown here.

The quality evaluation has always been a key aspect of the evaluation of allergens. New analytical methods were reported that fill existing loopholes in the characterisation of allergens products that are widely utilised. Innovative ideas and concepts are needed to evaluate new types of items. Advanced efforts to standardise the analytical instruments for allergen product characterization are intended to enhance reliability and comparability. The regulatory standards are therefore modified according to these developments.

Current quality demands for allergens ensure the manufacturing of well-known, high quality products. As manufacturing experience and good product characterisation methodologies are increased, the underlying quality control and evaluation concepts are supplemented and continually re-evaluated.
