For patients with vitiligo, the combined use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and 308-nm excimer laser therapy is an efficacious treatment modality based on its superiority to monotherapy, according to a meta-analysis published in The Journal of International Medical Research. In 302 patients, combination therapy with PRP and 308-nm excimer laser therapy outperformed phototherapy alone by considerably improving the total response rate and reducing the no response rate in patients with vitiligo. Furthermore, the percentage of patients with repigmentation rates of 25% or more, 50% or more, and 75% or more were notably higher in the combination group than in the single therapy group. Adverse events with combination therapy versus laser therapy alone were comparable. “As the use of PRP in the treatment of vitiligo is a novel concept, additional large-scale, well-designed RCTs must be performed in the future,” the authors wrote.
