Chinese research indicates that there appears to be a significant association between the presence, extent, and global severity of disc degeneration and BMI. In adults with disc degeneration, BMI was significantly higher than in those without it. Obese patients had significantly more pronounced end-stage disc degeneration with disc space narrowing when compared with normal-weight patients.
