The incidence of hepatitis A virus (HAV) infection appears to have declined from 6.0 to 0.4 cases per 100,000 between 1999 and 2011, according to a study. However, researchers found that HAV-related hospitalizations increased from 7.3% to 24.5% during this period. The average age among hospitalized patients increased from 36 to 45 years.
