THURSDAY, July 23, 2020 (HealthDay News) — U.S. nursing homes will receive another $5 billion to help them fight the COVID-19 pandemic, the Trump administration announced Wednesday.

Nursing homes in COVID-19 hotspots will be first in line to receive the new money, the Associated Press reported.

The nursing home industry and advocates have been pushing the Trump administration and Congress to provide more financial assistance for nursing homes.

The $5 billion is part of a package that includes efforts to offer more training and support for nursing homes and facilitate ongoing testing of nursing home staff, the AP reported. Previously, nursing homes received $4.9 billion from pandemic relief funds approved by Congress.
